Oakley acquired a majority stake in IU in 2017 when the group had just 15,000 students. Today it is the largest university in Germany, and the third largest private university in Europe, with over 150,000 students. IU’s unique digital platform offers >400 accredited bachelor's and master's courses, representing the largest portfolio of degree programmes worldwide. The Group has a consistent increase in student intake combined with best-in-class academic outcomes and below-benchmark churn rates.

In 2023, Oakley raised a continuation vehicle to extend its successful partnership with IU Group and its senior management. Oakley’s continued ownership and control of IU in combination with the leadership team running the business will ensure the long-term delivery of the Group’s vision to democratise education globally.
